Uriarte ∼ Marcela Lobo

Marcela Lobo, born September 12, 1959 in Mexico City, is an artist especially noted for her work painting ceramics for Uriarte Talavera.  Active since about 1986, she has exhibited individually and collaboratively in Europe and the U.S., as well as nationally throughout Mexico. Her special signed pieces for Uriarte are appreciated by fans for her delightful, whimsical designs depicting everyday still-life objects, such as fruits and common dish ware like tea pots and cups and saucers. Her objects have a primitive quality, appear to float, and are painted in bold colors and sharp, clear lines. The use of traditional majolica components, such as cobalt blue, is pronounced and prevalent in her works. Combined with her novel – in Talavera – use of both bright and muted colors, together with contemporary style, her unique point of view strongly conveys typically Mexican themes.
